More torrential rainfall is expected this afternoon/evening, much of Saturday, Sunday, and the morning of Monday. A fast-moving cold front will arrive later today and tonight, before stalling somewhere across Central Texas. Later on Saturday, a warm front will begin moving north bringing more showers with it. Showers will become widespread along the front today, then across the entire region tonight. No storms are expected to be severe, although a couple of storms could have some gusty winds and small hail. However, heavy rainfall and some localized flooding is yet again a concern for DFW, especially since the ground is already supersaturated. Since Monday, much of DFW has gotten anywhere between 3-8 inches of rainfall. Glen Rose Texas got almost 9 inches of rainfall!
First Freeze Possible Tuesday Night
Yes, believe it or not, but DFW is in for some sub-freezing temperatures Tuesday night / Wednesday morning! With the cold front we will be getting over the weekend, temperatures will cool down significantly. With a rather cool weekend, we will dive right into Monday with highs of only 44-46 degrees and lows of near freezing! Tuesday night temperatures are expected to be anywhere in the high 20s or just below freezing, depending on where in the DFW metroplex.
Widespread frost is expected for DFW Tuesday night due to the sub-freezing temperatures so make sure to follow the 4 P’s!
Remember the 4 P’s!
Plants – Put heavy warm blankets over your plants. With this extreme cold, your plants won’t stand a chance without proper protection. Take in all delicate plants to keep them alive.
Pets – If you own any pets, do not let them wander outdoors for extended periods of time or be unsupervised! Temperatures this low can be extremely hazardous for your pet!
Pipes – Cover your outdoor pipes properly! Temperatures close to zero can produce more issues than just to your outdoor pipes. Make sure to set all your external faucets in your house or apartment to drip slowly to prevent freezes in the pipeline! For pool owners, make sure to run your pool equipment through these low temperatures in order to prevent freezes! Cover your equipment with heavy warm blankets to provide better protection.
People – Last of all and most importantly, protect yourself and others! Make sure your neighbors have what they need to get through this cold and that they won’t go out during these frigid temperatures unprepared. Minimize trips outdoors and wear proper clothing to keep warm. Hypothermia can set quickly especially with wind chills in the negatives.
