Feeling the Heat Yet?

It is not your imagination.  It has been so hot that chickens are laying hard-boiled eggs and cows are producing evaporated milk.  (Thank the Internet for those jokes.)  Even though we have had a small reprieve this week so far with temperatures in the mid to upper 90’s, I know many of you are wondering, “What is normal?” and “Have we broken any records?”

This is, in fact, hotter than a typical August for DFW.  The US National Weather Service of Fort Worth says we broke the record for the longest period of time at or above 80F+ on August 14th.  The record was 358 hours of consecutive 80F+ back in August of 1998, and then August 14th we passed it at 359 hours.  Then, August 15th brought night temperatures into the 70’s for a small cool down before we started more blisteringly, record-breaking heat again.

So as if DFW has not garnered enough attention for its heat already, it went on to show-off its heat-producing abilities again to crack into the Top 10 all-time maximum temperatures on August 25th and 26th, ranking 7th with a whopping 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service!  If we hit 113 degrees, we can take over the top spot—gives us something to aspire to (sarcasm).

In all seriousness, it is brutal out there, but many times we cannot pause our life while we wait for Fall, so be sure to limit your time outdoors, drink plenty of water, and wear loose fitting, breathable clothing.  Do not leave children or pets in cars for any amount of time and check on your elderly neighbors.  Hang in there—this heat too shall pass!
